The start of any great building is its foundations. At MCC we seasonally run a course in the basics of Christianity. It is a time for Christians to be reminded about the basis of their faith and a time for those who are searching to hear about the foundations of Christianity. All of us have questions all of the time and Foundations probably touches on most of them in the course of its seven weeks.
After spending a while chatting with each other over coffee and tea we get into the thick of it. The leader gives an introduction to the topic that takes about 20 minutes or so and then we break down into small groups to discuss what we’ve heard.
Foundations is genuinely open to all comers. It is designed to be a safe, non-confrontational, clear explanation of the core aspects of the Christian faith. It has proven very popular amongst our members, veteran Christians who found it refreshing to remember again why they believe what they believe and seekers who found it a thrilling chance to ask the deepest questions and consider just who Jesus is.
The seven weeks of courses cover:
1. Introduction To Christianity
2. Who is Jesus?
3. Can the Bible be trusted?
4. Why did Jesus have to die?
5. Is Jesus still alive?
6. Who is the Holy Spirit?
7. Can I be sure I am a Christian?
Although each Foundations class takes only 90 minutes, many nights we’ve ended up sticking around for hours chatting about the issues that were raised by the talk and the small group discussion.
We usually run Foundations in the summer months and during the autumn term.
