Reel Christianity returns this Sunday in the MCC Resource Centre at 7.30pm, this Sunday, May 18th.
Reel Christianity is an ongoing project in MCC where we come together to enjoy movies that deal with the Christian faith in some interesting way.
Usually we’ve watched serious movies, like the Danish art-house Dancer In The Dark. Not this time. It’s cartoon-central on Sunday as we watch Hellboy.
Made by the much acclaimed Guillermo Del Torro (he who made Pan’s Labyrinth and is set to direct the Hobbit), it is all about a demon who likes cigars and how he realises too late that he loves his best friend, a witty New York journalist. No. I’m lying. It’s not about that.
It’s a brilliant, witty comic-book movie. But it also looks to us to raise great questions about adoption, sonship and other really important Christian ideas in a fashion that it is even more entertaining, if you can imagine that, than a sermon.
